Freedom and the Press

I live in the United Kingdom, I have the freedom to live my life as I choose, free to think, worship and believe, to criticise and to vote...to live according to laws which date as far back as the Magna Carta.

The press is free to criticise the Government.

I have rights which some societies may envy.

Channel 4, today broadcast an alternative (to HM Queen Elizabeth II) Christmas message by the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad...in which he claims Christ, if here today, would oppose bullies and the aims and objectives of the Western powers.

The irony of the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, citing Christ, when he lives in a country which has sent Christians to the gallows for their religious beliefs and hangs young gay men from cranes in public places should not be lost on us.

I rejoice that I live in a society which allows me to hear his message but let's not forget the brutality of his regime.

He denies the holocaust and wishes to see the state of Israel disappear.
