The UK based Conservative party and the NI based UUP have agreed to select joint candidates at future Westminster and European elections for seats in Northern Ireland.
The UUP used to be NI largest political party, that mantle now belongs to the DUP.
The UUP's only MP, Lady Sylvia Hermon, regularly votes with the Government in Westminster, which is the party the Conservatives are the official opposition to.
I can see what the Conservatives hope to achieve, being able to claim to be the only party which represents all of the UK, but for the UUP it smacks of desperation and the death throes of a once proud political organisation.
Just what Northern Ireland needs, a political party which wants cut backs in public spending, poverty wages and is anti-european.
