No going back

1. Sat 7 Mar, 2120 GMT: Sappers Mark Quinsey and Patrick Azimkar are killed outside the Massereene Army base, Antrim. Four other people, including two pizza delivery men, are injured. Dissident republican group Real IRA claims responsibility.

2. Mon 9 Mar, 2145 GMT: Police Constable Stephen Carroll is shot dead in Craigavon after responding to a call for help from a distressed woman. Splinter group the Continuity IRA says it was responsible

A 3rd terrorist murder within a few days of the earlier attack in Antrim.

We can not go back to the past, but thankfully unlike the dark days before our politicians are in agreement, condemning the killers and calling for those with information to go to the PSNI. This is a major step forward.

The 70's, 80's and 90's were horrendous, as someone who was born in the worst year of the troubles, I have no desire to relive the hell which meant a trip to Belfast was only an annual event, that road journeys were often interrupted by army patrols and that the news each day was usually about some poor innocent being murdered in cold blood.

Tomorrow the Trade Union movement will be holding rallies in Northern Ireland to highlight our collective revulsion of these acts and calling for them to cease.

The murder of anyone is a senseless and disgusting crime, the murder of someone to satisfy a warped ideology is even more disturbing..together the terrorists must realise their actions are not in our name, not now, not ever....
