The New Yorker has run a editorial on the politics of fear, the cartoon above, which forms the front page of the 21 July edition, depicts Barack Obama and his wife.
Obama is depicted in muslim dress and his wife dressed up like a terrorist. The purpose of this edition is to show how the Republican Right is trying maliciously to paint Obama as a muslim and to feed into the fear of middle America. This article has sincerely missed the point, its has added fuel to the flames of suspicion which surround Obama.
Is this racism dressed as satire?

I haven't seen the actual magazine, but this article says it was only an editorial cartoon that cool people would understand without subtitles.
